*-won on the first playoff hole (No. 18) with eagle

The 2024 PNC Championship ended with a thrilling play-off between Bernhard & Jason Langer and Tiger & Charlie Woods after each team posted a record low 36-hole total of 116.

At the first play-off hole, (18) Bernhard watched Tiger, Charlie and Jason miss their eagle attempts before he calmly drained his own eagle putt to claim victory and win a record sixth PNC Championship title, while his son Jason claimed his fourth.

The final day crowd also enjoyed two fabulous holes-in-one in close succession – Charlie on No. 4 with a 7-iron from 176 yards and an in-form Paddy Harrington on No. 8 with a 6-iron from 183 yards. Team Harrington finished in third place.

Jason Langer on the experience…

“It was a special day. I mean, what a treat to play with Tiger and Charlie. Charlie is an awesome player. You know, amazing to witness that hole-in-one on 4. A real honor for me to play with Tiger.

It was tight all day. We were within a shot either way from the very beginning, and he (Dad) really played well. I put a little bit of pressure on him in certain spots, and he made a bunch of putts and was so consistent. It was a special day. Won’t forget it.”

Bernhard Langer on whether he had played a final round with Tiger before and the experience…

“Maybe not the final round. I played with him probably a dozen times. I was one of the first to play with him when he turned pro. But that was a long time ago. He’s come a long way and won a lot of tournaments since.

But they couldn’t have been nicer. Both of them, truly very gentlemen-like. Fun to be with. Competitive. You could see they wanted to win this, and they played awesome.

I mean, 15-under, that’s hard to do in windy conditions. They played really great. I’m just so proud of him. First time playing with Tiger on the spotlight. It’s not easy. A lot of people are moving. They are really not always interested in what we do, and sometimes we hit good shots, and we heard like, you know, (indicating soft clap) so we never really knew whether we’re close or not at times.

But very proud of him the way he handled himself. He hit a couple of fantastic iron shots into 18 to give us the opportunity to make birdie and then eagle.”

On the added buzz of playing with Team Woods in the final pairing…

Bernhard: “For me personally, it just makes me focus even more so. I seem to enjoy that challenge to be the underdog or to play in tough circumstances. It just helps me to zero in even more. But I was very proud of how he (Jason) handled it because, you know, the first time you do that, it’s a bit of an out-of-body experience, for many of them, and he didn’t seem to be fazed by it. So it’s pretty amazing.”

Jason: “It helps when he’s hitting behind you. It was really special to be able to be out there with Tiger, and yeah, the crowd was more than anything I’ve ever played in front of for sure. I’m not that competitive these days. I play a couple amateur events a year. But definitely today was not something that I am used to.

You know, I think being able to be out there with Dad and my brother caddying and my brother-in-law caddying, as well, definitely made it more comfortable. And knowing that we’ve been out here before and made some good memories and hit plenty of good shots out on this golf course, definitely made me feel a little bit more at ease.”

Tiger and Charlie Woods after finishing in second place…

On Charlie getting his first Ace…

Charlie: “It was awesome having Dad there. That was so much fun. It was just a perfect 7-iron, little cut in there. Of course never got to see it go in. So that sucks. But that’s all right.”

Tiger: “That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That’s what this event is about. It’s about bonding and family. For us to have that experience together, I know we didn’t win, but it was the fact that we competed. No one really made a mistake out there. We had to earn it, and that’s what you want to have. Hats off to Langers. They played amazing.”

On how impressive Bernhard Langer’ game is at age 67…

Tiger: “It’s incredible, right? The driver he hit out of the bunker on 14, that was one of the best shots I’ve ever seen.”

Charlie: “Speechless. It was Awesome. He didn’t miss a shot out there.”

Tiger on what impresses him most about Charlie’s game…

“He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player. I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.”

Padraig and Paddy Harrington achieved their best finish at the PNC Championship, tying for 3rd place alongside the Duvals and the Singhs.

On Paddy getting his first hole-in-one…

Padraig: “I’ve never been so excited in my life. It was a great shot, which is nice. You know, I know my first hole-in-one wasn’t a spectacularly good shot. That was perfect swing, perfect shot, and when it went in, I’ve never experienced anything like it, the joy of it. Because obviously you can win tournaments and do that, and that’s a different sort of pressure and excitement.”

I was too excited. You couldn’t have talked to me. I was gone. This is a great event, and all of it is great. And we try and play well, but that was sheer joy.

I don’t think it could have been a better golfing moment.”

Paddy: “I knew it was a good shot, and I was kind of fading it in. And then to just see everyone on the back of the green erupt was an unbelievable feeling.”
