NELLY KORDA, ANNIKA SORENSTAM SET TO COMPETE AT 2024 PNC CHAMPIONSHIP

September 30, 2024

World No.1 Nelly Korda and LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam will return to the PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes, Dec.19–22, 2024.

Korda returns as a two-time major champion, having won her second title at The Chevron Championship earlier this year. This victory marked her fifth consecutive tournament win, equalling the LPGA Tour record for consecutive victories. The 25-year-old will be making her fourth appearance at the PNC Championship, playing alongside father Petr Korda, a former tennis player who won the 1998 Australian Open. The duo finished tied 13th last year, following a tied fifth place finish the previous year.

I’m so excited to be back at the PNC Championship this year. Teaming up with my dad for this event is always so much fun and it’s become one of our favorite weeks of the year.” Korda said. “Competing alongside so many legends of the game is an experience that never gets old, and there’s no better way to end the year than to play with my dad in the PNC.”

Ten-time major champion Annika Sorenstam will return for her fifth appearance, teaming up for the third time with her 13-year-old son, Will. Last year, Will told the media that the PNC Championship is ‘the best week of my year and life.’ The pair finished in tied 11th place marking Sorenstam’s best finish in the event.

“Will and I have been looking forward to the PNC Championship all year. We had an amazing experience last year, both playing together and being able to share the whole adventure with our family.   The memories we made will stay with us forever,” Sorenstam said. “I was so proud of the way Will handled with the pressure of playing in front of so many fans and among so many legends of the game. He played well and enjoyed every single minute, which is what it’s all about.”

This is PNC Bank’s 13th year as the tournament’s title sponsor. The event was renamed the PNC Championship in 2020, reflecting the world class talent and special bonds that characterize this inclusive family tournament.

The tournament, which will be broadcast live across NBC, GOLF Channel and Peacock, attracts major champions whose victories this year span 1959 to the present day. Last year, the PNC Championship gathered a field of golfing greats that had won 62 major titles and included 11 former world No.1s. With only 20 teams competing, players past and present are once again showing an unprecedented interest in campaigning for a spot in the star-studded line-up for 2024.

The PNC Championship has continued to evolve and develop since the inaugural tournament in 1995, when 10 major winners gathered with their sons. The tournament now features 20 major champions and their relatives competing in a two-day, 36-hole scramble for the Willie Park Trophy. To qualify for the PNC Championship, players must have won a major championship or The Players Championship. Their partner must not hold any playing status on a professional Tour.
