PNC Bank Commits to Multi-Year Title Sponsorship Renewal
December 19, 2024
IMG and NBC Sports announced today that PNC Bank has extended its contract as title sponsor of the PNC Championship through 2032.
PNC Bank has been the title sponsor of the PNC Championship since 2012 and in that time, the tournament has grown in stature exponentially with the broadcast of last year’s Championship reaching millions of viewers around the world.
The 27th edition of the PNC Championship takes place this weekend, Dec. 21-22, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes, with defending champions Bernhard and Jason Langer heading the star-studded field.
Lou Cestello, Head of Regional Presidents at PNC, said “We are proud to be continuing our long-term commitment to this highly competitive event that celebrates golf and family. This partnership extension illustrates just how much we have enjoyed our longstanding association with the PNC Championship.”
IMG’s Alastair Johnston, the executive chairman of the tournament, commented “We started the PNC Championship to showcase the family bond that golf cultivates and to give the icons of our game an opportunity to share their success with the ones they love. When PNC Bank joined us in 2012, they felt like a great fit as we had so many shared values and ambitions for this special tournament, and so it has proved as they are now firmly established as a part of our PNC Championship family.
Jon Miller, president of acquisitions and partnerships, NBC Sports, said “The PNC Championship has become one of golf’s most beloved events as it closes out the calendar year with a focus on family. NBC Sports is proud to be a co-founder of this great championship, and we look forward to our continued relationship with PNC Bank for years to come.”
This year’s 20-team line-up includes Tiger and Charlie Woods and Annika Sorenstam and her son Will. Both have added more than their fair share of trophies to a field that has won a total of 69 majors and 40 senior major titles and more than 1000 international titles. Current World No. 1 Nelly Korda is the highest ranked with more than half the field having reached the pinnacle of World No. 1 during their distinguished careers. The youngest partner is 13-year-old Will McGee, while the ‘most experienced’ is Gary Player at 89 years young. Four years junior to Player is Lee Trevino, 85, the only player to have played in all 26 editions of the PNC Championship.
This is PNC Bank’s 13th year as the tournament’s title sponsor. The event was renamed the PNC Championship in 2020, reflecting the world class talent and special bonds that characterize this inclusive family tournament.
The tournament, which will be broadcast live across NBC, GOLF Channel and Peacock, attracts major champions whose victories this year span 1959 to the present day.
The PNC Championship has continued to evolve and develop since the inaugural tournament in 1995, when 10 major winners gathered with their sons. The tournament now features 20 major champions and their relatives competing in a two-day, 36-hole scramble for the Willie Park Trophy. To qualify for the PNC Championship, players must have won a major championship or The Players Championship. Their partner must not hold any playing status on a professional Tour.
